John H Hammond

Sodus – John Henry Hammond, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Rochester General Hospital.

     Family will greet friends on Friday (Nov. 18) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark where a funeral service will be Saturday (Nov. 19) at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Port Gibson Cemetery.

     John was born the son of the late Edward and Edith Marion (Skeels) Hammond on Saturday, October 14, 1939 in Manchester, NY. He was a graduate of Newark High School class of 1960. John worked with his brother Fred at the Fred Hammond Dairy Farm. For the last 14 years John, has worked for Wayne County Highway Department. A big part of his job was mowing the road side, and he was very proud of his John Deere Tractor that he used. John was a big and loyal Buffalo Bills fan for many years. He loved to go Square Dancing with his wife. Above all else he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren his “pride and joy”. John attended the First Baptist Church of Newark.

     John will be remembered by his loving wife and companion of 54 years Betty (Adsitt) Hammond; daughters Irene (Marvin) DeRoo and Crystal (Tom) Dow; grandchildren Jessica, Courtney, Johnathon, Hunter and Dalton; brother Thurlow (Bonnie) Hammond; sister-in-law Jeanette Hammond; many nieces and nephews.

     John was predeceased by his brothers Fred and Donald; sisters Elaine Brown, Agnes Robison and Jane Henry.
