Roxanna E. Rowe
Roxanna Elsie (De May) Rowe passed on August 29th. At 96 years, she lived a long and active life raising 8 children.
Roxanna was a stay-at-home mother for many years, where she baked daily for school lunches and church receptions, and cared for other kids after school. She always handmade the Halloween costumes for all the kids ranging from queens and pirates and even Peter Pan.
When her youngest child entered school, Roxanna returned to the work force working first at Hallagans, and then at Ethan Allen where she made specialty drapes until she retired. She continued her sewing and quilting as well as numerous hobbies such as jewelry making throughout her life.
Roxanna was a 62-year member of Park Presbyterian church and was active in the Presbyterian Women and Together in Christ where she served as secretary for 13 years. She was also a member of the Park Church Quilters where she taught several of the current members how to quilt. She also made numerous banners and sanctuary paraments for the church.
For enjoyment, she and her husband of 75 years, Ken were active in the "Kuntry Kusins" square dance group and Wayne County Gem and Mineral club, where she earned her nickname "Rocky". Roxanna and Ken mined for gemstones primarily in the northeast as well as out west. She has a unique gemstones displayed at the NY State Museum in Albany, NY.
Roxanna was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Dorothy De May and her siblings, James De May and Dorothy Raynor.
She will be eternally missed by her husband, Ken Rowe, and children Sue Rowe & Steve Mitchell, Marla and Jack Barton, Mark and Cindy Rowe, Rebecca and Lee Powers, Patti Morris, Ken Jr. and Andi Rowe, Paul and Laura Rowe, and Matt Rowe, plus 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Her service will be at Park Presbyterian Church on Monday, Sept. 15th with calling hours at 11 am, and funeral at noon, with reception to follow.
