Mary V. Cook
Tacoma, Washington formally of Newark - Mary was born in Savannah, New York, on August 31, 1924, to Leon and Isabelle Kane, she transferred from this earthly existence to heaven, on February 29, 2020, in Tacoma, WA. She leaves behind her daughter, Cheryl (Cook), and son-in-law, Charles Wofford, two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as multiple nephews and nieces.
She is predeceased by her husband, Edwin in 2003.
Mary was a longtime resident of Newark. She worked a variety of jobs, but most notable was her 21year career with the Newark School District, as one of the main cooks for the district schools and then moving on to the position of manager, where being a forward thinker, she saw the need and established the before school breakfast program, with input from students.
After retirement, she provided outstanding care, for 23 years, for her husband who suffered from ALS. In addition, she will be remembered as, “Mary, Mary”, for home-sewn gifts.
We will always be thankful that she decided to move to Washington State, in 2005, to be near her daughter and family, to whom she brought much joy.
Mary's graveside service was held in Newark Cemetery on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
