Born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 21, 1961, to Fransico and Carmen Medina, she had six brothers and three sisters. She grew up in New York City before going to Puerto Rico for a short period to find her roots and be reunited with her father before returning to New York.

Marisol met her husband, Joseph Bertou, in 1995, and they were married in Rochester in 1996. They have one son, Dimitrius, who was the love of her life. She practiced law, and her hobbies included cooking, cleaning, and spending time with animals, especially cats. She was very compassionate, loved taking care of other people, being a homemaker, going shopping, and had a special fondness for babies. Her favorite color is purple.

She is survived by her husband and son.
