Margaret Gladys Williams
Newark - Margaret Gladys Williams, age 100, passed away peacefully in her sleep a few days after celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends.
Margaret was born on March 14, 1926, in Arcadia, NY, to Elmer and Mary Weibeld Overslaw. She was a devoted daughter and the best older sister to her only sibling, Elmer Francis Overslaw, Jr.
Margaret met her husband of 50 years, Robert Williams, Sr., on the sidewalk on the way to school, and she and her friend asked him to go to the school dance. Not long after they dated, they married in 1943. Together, they had a daughter, Betty Jane, and a son, Robert Williams Jr., who had predeceased Margaret. Both Margaret and Robert Sr. helped raise nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren throughout their lives. Her life was devoted to her family, whom she loved dearly.
Even though she had a family to raise, she had careers at Sarah Coventry, Montgomery Ward, and Ames, where she formed lifelong bonds with her co-workers. Margaret was an avid card player at the senior centers, a Buffalo Bills fan, and a reader of many books.
Margaret is survived by her grandchildren, John (Becky) Smith, Mary Smith, Jason Land, Drew Williams, Kelsey Williams, and Cameron Williams; one cousin, Gary Fisher; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Please join the family at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at East Newark Cemetery on Vienna Road in Newark, New York, for Margaret's graveside service.
