Jose “Joe” A. Ortiz Jr.

North Rose - Jose “Joe” A. Ortiz – 84, passed away peacefully December 15th, 2019, at Clifton Springs Nursing Home, after an extremely long and courageous battle with cancer.

Joe's celebration of life service will be at a date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Rose Fire Department, 5070 N Huron St, North Rose, NY 14516 or North Rose United Methodist Church, 5050 N Main St, North Rose, NY 14516.

Joe was born in Manhattan, NY, on October 26, 1935. He joined the Air Force and completed his basic training at Sampson Air Force Base. After basic training, Joe was stationed in Shreveport, LA. Joe's barrack mate became his best friend, George Carlin. George and Joe remained lifelong friends, visiting each other after their military service. After his service, Joe met and married the love of his life Elba and started his family in Puerto Rico before settling to the farm in North Rose in 1971. Joe retired from farming at Marshall Farms.

He was a kind soul that could strike up a conversation about anything with anyone that wanted to talk. The family would like to thank the nurses, activities dept, and all staff at Clifton Springs Nursing Home for his excellent care.

He is survived by sons David (Terry) Ortiz of North Rose and Alvin Ortiz of Newark; grandsons Ryan (Lauren) Ortiz and Samuel Ortiz; great-grandchildren Ariana and Maxx; brother, Melvin (Maria) Ortiz; cousin, Gabe (Kathy) Sorrel; many nephews.

Joe was predeceased by his wife, Elba Ortiz in 2008; parents, Jose (Frances) Ortiz; and his best friend in life actor/comedian George Carlin.
