John Frey Obituary

John A Frey

Newark - John Frey, age 78, of Savannah, NY, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026.

John was born the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (VanDerlinde) Frey on Monday, July 28, 1947, in Newark, NY. John lived in the Newark area for many years before moving to Savannah when his family began to grow.

A proud Army veteran, John served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he dedicated his entire career to Lakeland Equipment in Savannah. As a skilled mechanic, he was a fixture of the regional farming community and was frequently found working on equipment in the fields to ensure farms stayed running. Near and far, John knew the farmers of the region, and they would often wave as he drove by on a country road. John had a lifelong appreciation for farm equipment and was a collector of toy tractors, with a particular passion for John Deere models. He also enjoyed learning about Wayne County's local history, camping, and going for Sunday drives. A true animal lover, John was especially devoted to his dogs throughout his life.

John is survived by his children, Thomas (Jenica), Karen, and Timothy; his sisters, Valerie (Robert Young) and Cheryl (Darrel Vasseur); and his brothers, Dennis (Gloria), Larry (Ruby), and Jeff (Laurie).

He will be remembered for his hard work, his mechanical skill, and the many miles he traveled. His presence will be missed by his family and the countless friends he made across the fields and farms of Central and Western New York.

Burial will take place in Fairville Cemetery at a later date. In honor of John's love for his dogs, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Wayne County, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, NY 14489.
