Lyons - Jeanette Hernandez, 69, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026.

The family will greet friends on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark, NY 14513. Jeanette's funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m.

Jeanette Hernandez, daughter of the late Juan and Francisca (Rivas) Hernandez, was born on Sunday, July 1, 1956, in Newark, New York. She spent her life in the Lyons area and was a graduate of Lyons High School, Class of 1975. Jeanette continued her education, earning her bachelor's degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and later her master's degree from Nazareth College.

Jeanette dedicated many years to teaching, serving at St. Michael's, St. Stephen's, ABC Daycare in Geneva, and Marion Central until her retirement in 2021. Following her teaching career, she worked and volunteered at The Dove Block. Jeanette had a love for arts and crafts, especially painting, and found great joy in spending time at home.

Jeanette will be remembered by her sister, Milagros "Millie" Hernandez; and many extended family and friends here and in Puerto Rico.

Jeanette was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Hernandez.
