Howard was born the son of Joseph and Ivey Keyton on Friday, March 19, 1937, in Charlottesville, VA. Howard moved from Virginia to New York in 1957. Shortly after, he became employed by Wayne County and retired in 1996 as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. Howard was no ordinary man. He was a brother, husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and great-grandpa. His life conjures up words like integrity, character, honesty, and just plain-old hard work. He was simple yet profound, tender yet strong. Howard was quiet, yet his life spoke volumes. He was gentle and able to challenge you to be better, do better, with no remorse! Howard was a giver; monetarily, of his time, energies, talents (he had many - there wasn't anything he couldn't do without finding a way or figuring it out). His mind was his greatest asset. Even with dementia he had a sense about him that kept him anchored, safe and grounded. His life served a purpose and through the years he adjusted gracefully to each season. He has left us with a 'Legacy' that is both exceptional and inspirational in spite of the challenges and difficulties he faced and overcame. We close this last chapter with broken hearts for our loss. Howard is irreplaceable and will be forever loved. "Self-made men" frequently end up worshipping their "maker." ~R. B. Ouellette
