Gloria VanLare Cornwell (Lasher)

Lyons - Gloria Cornwell, 78, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at home after a brief illness.

The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. January 13, 2024, at United Church of Phelps, 58 Main Street, Phelps, NY 14532. Gloria's memorial service will follow visitation at 11 a.m. Private burial at Fairville Cemetery.

Gloria, the daughter of the late John F. and Shirley (Smith) VanLare, was born on Thursday, July 12, 1945, in Newark, NY. Her life was rooted in the area, culminating in her graduation from Newark High School in the class of 1963. Throughout her journey, Gloria held various jobs. Still, it was in the role of a gym teacher at St. Michaels School or teachers assistant at Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES-that she found the most fulfillment, eventually retiring after dedicating many years to this profession.

Even in retirement, Gloria remained ceaselessly active. A genuine social butterfly, she nurtured friendships that spanned over five decades. Her joy lay in spending time with others, whether engaged in a lively game of Bingo or simply sharing conversations over coffee. Her affiliation with the United Church of Phelps was a significant part of her life, alongside her role in nurturing foster children and serving as a foster grandparent. Above all, Gloria cherished moments with her family, holding them close to her heart.

Gloria will be remembered by her children Stephen (Erin) Lasher, Suzanne (Deanne) Lasher, and Deborah (Scott) Case; step-son, Donald (Linda Thomsen) Cornwell; her grandchildren Gabrielle (Sean) Partin, Ryan Lasher, Ayden Lasher, Alexa Burton, Jensyn (Jessie) Penta, Seth Case, Logan Case, Evan Case, Melaney Case, Teddy Cornwell, and Clara Cornwell; great-grandchildren Anderson Penta, Charlotte Penta, and Laine Bush; her brother, John (Cheryl) VanLare, Jr. and adopted brother, Eddie Brunson, III; many nieces and nephews.

Gloria was predeceased by husband, Robert Cornwell.
