Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Viola passed away peacefully, on July 3 2026.
Betty was born on November 30, 1929, in Fulton, New York the daughter of Nora (Hanlon) Derr and Luther Derr. She grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion Central School in 1947.
Betty was an avid reader who enjoyed watching tennis and golf, painting, listening to music, and tending to her houseplants. She was especially known for her beautiful hand-painted bisque Santa figurines, which she created and gifted to family and friends for many years.
She was employed by CH Stuart Company for 34 years before continuing her career with the Wayne County Courthouse, where she worked for 12 years until her retirement in 1993.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years, Donald Viola; her brother, John Derr; sisters-in-law, Sheila Derr, Lynn Derr, Lola Viola, Glora Viola, Betty Viola, and Barb Viola; brothers-in-law, Frank Viola, Bill Viola, Tom Viola, and Tony Viola; her beloved nephew, Steven Derr; and her fiancé, Vinnie Mancuso.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Derr, and sister-in-law, Frances Curtis; her nieces Anne (Keith) Knapp, Mary (Chas) Tatigian, Christine Krebbeks (Earl Patton Sr.), Kimberly (Jedd) Hetherley, Stephanie Derr, and her nephews Christopher Derr, along with many other nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Family and friends are invited to attend Betty's Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at St. Michael Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be private in South Lyons Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark, NY 14513, or to a favorite charity in Betty's memory.
