Cornelia DeLeo "Corky"
Newark - Corneila Corky DeLeo, 71, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, after a brief illness with her family by her side.
Corky was born on Thursday, October 16, 1952, in Newark, NY, the beloved daughter of the late Peter and Barbara (Steinruck) DeCook. Throughout her life, Corky remained rooted in the local community, graduating from Newark High School with the class of 1970. Her professional journey led her to a fulfilling career in Human Resources, a path she pursued diligently until her passing.
While raising her children, Corky naturally assumed the "neighborhood mother" role, extending her care and warmth beyond her own family. Her infectious love for life was evident in her belief that laughter was the best medicine, which she generously shared with friends and loved ones. Corky enjoyed gardening, testing her luck at the casino, and embarking on camping adventures to visit her children. A staunch supporter of the Yankees, she cheered passionately for her favorite team. Above all, Corky cherished moments spent with her grandchildren during family gatherings.
Corky will be remembered by her husband of fifty-two years, Jim DeLeo; her children Dena (Joseph) DeLeo-Heath and Marc DeLeo; her grandchildren, Cameron and Gavin Heath; siblings, Ken DeCook, Bill (Janine) DeCook and Barbara (Lee) West; brothers-in-law, Ralph DeLeo and Bob (Valerie) DeLeo, sisters-in-law, Debi (Larry) DeMott and Donna (Tom) LeRoy; many nieces and nephews.
Corky was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Paul DeLeo; and her sisters-in-law, Sandy DeLeo and Tharan DeLeo;
The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St, Newark where a memorial service will follow visitation. Corky's celebration of life will be at the Newark V.F.W, 225 East Union Street, Newark, NY 14513 at 4:30 p.m.
