Betty J Hausman
Newark - Betty J Hausman, 92, passed away April 16, 2019, at the Geneva Living Center North.
Betty was born in Palmyra on May 21, 1926, the daughter of the late Charles and Eloise Arnold Hausman. Betty lived and worked most of her adult life in Newark. Betty was quite an icon in the village. On any given day, she could be found riding her bicycle downtown on her way to work, to visit a friend at the nursing home, or checking on the dogs and cats in the neighborhood. Betty was very patriotic. All three of her brothers served in WWII, and during that time, Betty and other young women in the area, as part of the USO, would travel to Sampson Naval Base to socialize and dance with the sailors stationed there. She was a great jitterbugger! Betty loved a good parade and any music which paid tribute to the men and women of the armed forces. Betty’s favorite events were attending the Gorham Pageant of Bands each June and the summer concerts at Sodus Point Lighthouse. As her final gift to humanity, Betty donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Rochester.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Robert, William, Charles, Jr. (Josephine), and nephew Brian Hausman.
She is survived by niece Robin (Russell) Scott of Texas and their family, her sister-in-law, Jean Hausman, and her children Bruce (Jill) of Palmyra, Barbara (Timothy) Patnaude of Arizona, and their families. She is also survived by niece Mary (Jeff) Beall of Newark, nephews James (Mary Funke) and Thomas (Candace) of Ohio, Michael (Kathleen) of Vermont, and David (Janice) of Pennsylvania and their families.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be on Monday, June 21, 2021, at 10:00 a. m. at the Newark Cemetery on North Main Street.
