Thomas Edward Brandenburg
May 17, 1930 - August 19, 2019
Tom Brandenburg, at age 89, went to the open arms of his Lord and Savior on August 19, 2019.
He will be remembered by his 4 children, Julie (Don) Haingray, Kim (Rob) Leonard, Terry (Jen) Brandenburg, and Tyler (Tori) Brandenburg; and his 6 grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, Amanda, Jacob, Katie, and Ava; and his sister, Dorothy Kleikamp. Tom was predeceased by his wife Paula on April 24, 2019.
Tom was born the son of the late Pete and Catherine Brandenburg on May 17, 1930, in Baltimore Maryland. He grew up in Baltimore and later was employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie.
The funeral home proudly flew the Army Flag in honor of his service to our country during the Korean War.
Tom was first and foremost a devoted husband. In the early years of Tom’s employment, he was sent to California for a short-term business assignment. A pretty young gal, Paula, worked in the same location. The story goes that while driving to work one morning, Paula passed Tom walking along the road. She did NOT stop and offer him a ride. When he later saw her, and questioned her decision, Tom won a date, and the rest is history. After a whirlwind engagement, Tom and Paula married on September 25, 1956, and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
Tom was a dedicated father. He and Paula raised four children in Poughkeepsie, New York, from 1960 to 1995. Tom and Paula enjoyed family life, with all the various activities of four kids, including sports, church events, family gatherings with grandparents and extended relatives, and yearly vacations to the Jersey Shore.
Tom and Paula retired to Colorado Springs in 1995. They loved the Colorado sunshine, and filled their senior years with travel, gardening, church, and family. Tom especially enjoyed watching sports on TV, and was often seen with an old radio, headset, and the TV, all tuned into various games. Although originally a Baltimore fan, Tom switched loyalties to support the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos, and enjoyed their games up until the end. Tom and Paula came east every year to visit their children, and we likewise gathered yearly at their Colorado home.
Tom Brandenburg loved his family, and we loved him. We will always miss him, and be forever grateful for his legacy of faithfulness, integrity, and compassion.
