Theresa Carlton Obituary

Newark - Theresa Elizabeth Carlton, 75 returned to her heavenly home on October 21, 2018, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and unwavering belief in God gave her much comfort and ultimately gave her peace.

Theresa was born the daughter of the late Vertis and Hurtell (Stockton) Carlton on Wednesday, November 18, 1942, in Mobile, AL. After graduating from Central High School she moved to Buffalo NY, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for many years at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Buffalo, NY until retirement. During her years of residence at DeMay Living Center, she explored her artistic side; which included crochet, jewelry, and ceramic making. As an accomplished crafter, she won many ribbons over the years at the Wayne County Fair. She was also a prominent member of the DeMay community and participated in the Red Hat Society, the cooking club, the bible study group, and various other activities.

Theresa will be remembered by her daughters, Theresa Miller, Jennifer Miller, and Diane Carlton; grandsons, Bilal Bey and Jordan Miller; sisters, Evangeline (Edmond) Hatfield, of Valley, AL, Modesta (Calvin) McNeil of Moss Point, MS, and Clarise Carter of Mobile, AL; several nieces and nephews, including Denise Brookins, Katrina Carlton, and Pennington Carlton.

Theresa was also blessed with a large and loving extended family at DeMay. The family would also like to thank the staff at DeMay for the love and care they showed to their precious mother. Theresa was bigger than life, well loved, and will be sorely missed by everyone she met.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the DeMay Living Center, Therapeutic Recreation Dept-Arts. Please address donations to the Demay Living Center, 100 Sunset Drive, Newark, New York 14513. In memo line please note “in memory of Theresa for Therapeutic Department”.
