Richard was born the son of the late John and Anna (VanderBrook) Siler on Friday, February 8, 1929, in Newark, NY. He spent his entire life in the Newark area and worked as a horticulturist for Jackson & Perkins and Wayne Floral until he retired. Richard enjoyed growing plants at home as well and spent a lot of time working in his vegetable garden and caring for the flowers and fruit trees on the property. He also enjoyed swimming, reading, being outdoors, taking the car for a drive, and eating good food. Richard loved to take walks and would often pick up empty bottles and cans along the way. Over his years of walking, he collected and redeemed enough bottles and cans to purchase a new car. Above all he loved spending time with his family, especially the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral home proudly flies the Army Flag in honor of his service to our country during WWII and Korean War.
Richard will be remembered by his loving wife of nearly 69 years, Delores J. Siler; daughter, Pam (Craig) Gotham; son, Kurt Siler Sr; grandchildren, Clint (Juliana), Lauren and Colin Gotham, Erin Siler (Darrell Williams), Angela DeCook, Anna Skeels and Kurt Siler Jr.; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due in August; sisters-in-law, Sue Siler and Marge Siler; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard was predeceased by his brothers, Francis, Hubert, and John Siler; sister, Cora Johnson.
