Newark – Melvin Eugene Henkel, 92 peacefully entered eternal rest Tuesday, May 1, 2018 with his family by his side at Wayne County Nursing Home.
Family will greet friends Thursday (May 3) from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W Miller St, Newark. A Funeral Service will be Friday (May 4) at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors in East Newark Cemetery.

Mr. Henkel was born the son of the late Albert and Lena (Sheers) Henkel on Saturday, May 9, 1925 in Arcadia, NY. He was a graduate of Newark High School class of 1942. He worked at Garlock Corp. as a machine operator before joining the U.S. Post Office as a Rural Carrier. After retirement he drove school bus for 13 years for the Newark School System. Mr. Henkel enjoyed reading, sports and particularity the NY Yankees. He was a life member of the Newark American Legion.

Mr. Henkel will be remembered by his sons, Jeff Henkel and Craig (Amy) Henkel both of Newark; granddaughter, Alyssa Henkel of Rochester; sister, Verna Blondell of Lyons; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Henkel was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (O’Donnell) Henkel on Feb. 23, 2012, and granddaughter Ashley Henkel on May 24, 1999.
