Newark – Lester Orbaker, 97 entered eternal rest Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Geneva General Hospital.

     Fulfilling Lester’s wishes, there will be nor prior calling hours or funeral services. Family and friends may attend a graveside service on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 11 a.m. in Fairville Cemetery.

     In memory of Lester, in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Muscular Dystrophy, 1425 Jefferson Rd, 2nd Fl, Rochester, NY 14623 or a charity of choice.

     Lester was born the son of the late Cornelius and Jeanette (Moose) Orbaker on Sunday, October 5, 1919 in Marion, NY. He attended Newark Schools and was a past member of the Newark VFW – Post 2883. Several times in his later years he would march with the VFW Honor Guard on his scooter with a small flag on the back and rifle in hand. He was very proud to have severed in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was a recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. The funeral home proudly flies the Army flag in honor of his service.

     Lester had worked in construction all his life as a mason for Pike and also Monje. Everyone always saw Lester riding his red scooter all over Newark. Several times, Lester would park his scooter and police or friends would stop to check on him and his reply would be “yes, I’m ok, just resting my eyes before driving home”.

     Lester will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and many friends.

     Lester was predeceased by his wife Elise (DeCann) Orbaker; brothers Marinus, Raymond, Cornelius “Casey”, John “Jack”, Earl and Gerald; sisters Christine Heffron, Leona Leismeister, Irene Miller, Esther Benjamin (Lester’s twin) Geraldine Blankenberg and Betty Davis.
