Newark – Ernest “Ernie” Samuel Mori, 71, entered eternal rest peacefully Thursday, August 31, 2017 surrounded by family and friends at Canandaigua VA Hospital.

A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held at Zion Episcopal Church, 120 East Main St. Palmyra NY (NOTE DATE & TIME) on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 9 a.m.  A reception will follow immediately afterwards in the fellowship hall.

Ernie was born the son of the late Werner and Dellie (Madison) Mori on Tuesday, September 18, 1945 in Hammondsport, NY. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968 in the United States Army, and then the Army National Guard. The funeral home proudly flies the Army flag in honor of his service. He returned home and graduated with degrees in accounting from Alfred State and Rochester Institute of Technology.  He owned and operated his private accounting practice in Newark for over 30 years.  During this time, he was active in many civic and volunteer organizations including Kiwanis, Lions Club, Boy Scouts, VFW Post 2883, Marbletown and Fairville Volunteer Fire Department and Zion Episcopal Church. He was elected to the Newark School Board from 1992 to 1998 and served as the Controller for the Village of Newark from 1994 to 1997.  Ernie was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 45 years, Nancy (Smolos) Mori of Newark; daughter Michelle (Hugh) Woodside of Penfield, son Donald (Darby) of Franklin, TN and daughter Kathryn (Nicholas) Heidinger of Buffalo; grandchildren Nevin and Griffin Woodside, Samuel and Josephine Mori and Benjamin Heidinger; siblings Robert (Sylvia) of Bath, Margaret (William) Scheidweiler of Painted Post, Anne (Bruce) Erway of Honeoye Falls, Albert (Bonnie) of Dale City, VA and Mary Ruth Schoonover of Campbell; many loving nieces and nephews.

Ernie was predeceased by his sister Louise (Hunn) and his brother Tyrell
