Newark – Merle Thomas Fancett, 87 entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.

     Family will greet friends Friday (July 21) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St, Newark. A Funeral Service will be Saturday (July 22) at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Newark, 301 S. Main St, Newark. Burial will be in Bellona Cemetery.

     In memory of Merle, in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Gold Star Monument, Sampson VA Cemetery, Seneca County EDC, 1 Dipronio Dr., Waterloo NY 13165

     Merle was born the son of the late Legrand and Lucille (Ottman) Fancett in Penn Yan, NY. He was a high school graduate of Wolcott School class of 1946. Merle worked at and retired from Newark Schools and drove school bus until 1995. Merle was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark, AARP, RSVP and volunteered as a medical transport driver for RSVP. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 18 years and participated with the mentoring program in the Newark Central Schools. Merle enjoyed trout, fly fishing and was an avid hunter.

     The funeral home proudly flies the Air Force Flag in honor of Merle’s service to our country serving during the Korea and Viet Nam Wars. Merle was a recipient of a Bronze Star Medal medals and retired as Master Sargent. He was a member of Air Force Sargent Association.

     Merle will be remembered by his daughters Donna (Eric) Brooks of Newark and Suzanna (David) Jasinski of TX; grandchildren Thomas (Daria), Paul (Jennifer), Rebekah and Anna Brooks, Charles and Daniel Jasinski; great grandchildren Zachariah, Evan and Eli; brother Charles Fancett of Geneva; sisters Betty Reed of Savannah and Barbara Wilsey of Geneva; many nieces and nephews.

     Merle was predeceased by his first wife Thelma on Dec. 4, 1993 and his second wife Gay on Jan. 26, 1997, brothers Gerald and Norman.
