Newark – Edward Hethcoat, 83 entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Wayne County Nursing Home.
     Family and friends may call Thursday (Dec. 26) from 4 to 7 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W Miller St., Newark. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday (Dec. 27) at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, 401 S. Main St. Newark. Burial will follow in East Newark Cemetery.

     Mr. Hethcoat was born the son of Earl and Rhoda (Baker) Hethcoat on Friday, September 26, 1930 in Huntsville, Alabama.
In Dec. of 1958 he graduated from the 60th Session of the NY State Police Academy in Troy, NY. He was also a graduate of the 108th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, NY. He then graduated from Finger Lakes Community College in June of 1979 receiving an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice.
     Mr. Hethcoat was member of Newark Rotary and served as President from 1981-82. He was past Grand Knight at the Newark Counsel of Knights of Columbus, 1960 and was also a member of the Newark American Legion and St. Michael Church in Newark.     Mr. Hethcoat worked for the Newark Police Department for 37 years and served in the capacity of Police Chief for 12 years before retiring in 1993. The funeral home proudly flies the Air Force Flag in honor of his service to our country.
     Mr. Hethcoat will be remembered by his sons E. Michael (Barbara) Hethcoat and Thomas (Nora) Hethcoat; daughters Roxanne (Joseph) Grieco, Rebecca (Dale) Vandigo and Marie (David) Brumn; grandchildren Alison Hethcoat and Greg Baker, Matthew Hethcoat, Jacqueline and Joseph Vandigo, Rachel Brumn; great granddaughter Aria Mia Bella Baker; brother Joseph (Glena) Hethcoat; sisters Ruth Wise, Wanda Allison, Linda (Roy) Hanks and Alice (Donald) Gibson; many nieces and nephew; and many, many friends.
     Mr. Hethcoat was predeceased by his wife Rose Mary (Pizzirusso) Hethcoat in 1995; daughter Deborah (Hethcoat) Petty in 2004, brother Earl Hethcoat Jr. in 2000 and sister Lois June Bigilo in 1997.
